The Brief
To provide an area for sitting within the garden to drink and read rather than entertain.
They want an element of water within the garden.
To provide a sense of place
To aid privacy and improve the boundary fences.
My design
The garden was in bad repair and all the boundary fences were falling apart. We decided to reinstate low walls which would have originally separate these Victorian terrace houses. Placing bespoke slatted trellis on top aided privacy and broke up the impact of the boundaries in such a narrow garden.
A simple stepping stone pathway using bands of Flemish pavers interplanted with ground cover planting leads you into the garden from the back door. A large Urbis water bowl complete with waterlily and surrounded with shade and damp-loving plants creates a calming focal point within the garden. A new Malus Evereste mulit-stem tree will fill out the back corner and provide seasonal interest.
